Cochrane Singapore and SCRI presented a two-day course on the systematic reviews of interventional studies and a two-day course on systematic reviews of observational studies

The two-day Basic Workshop provided essential guidance for the entire systematic review process, referring to the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. It covered the topics of developing a focused question (PICO method) and effective literature search strategy, assessing the risk of bias of studies, conducting meta-analysis using Review Manager and understanding the results (e.g. forest and funnel plots) and heterogeneity.

The two-day Advanced Workshop was a mixture of lectures and practical work. A systematic review and meta-analysis of interventions typically include well-conducted randomised controlled trials (RCTs) however sometimes the lack of RCTs may prompt reviewers to include observational studies such as cohort and case-control studies. This two-day workshop provided ways how to conduct systematic reviews of observational studies. It covered the following key topics: searching the Cochrane Library, bias and confounding, assessing the risk of bias, conducting a meta-analysis, multiple regression analysis and a hands-on session on RevMan and R software.
